Water Sports (non-boat) in Jerusalem

Jerusalem doesn’t scream water sports at first glance, but once summer hits and the sun’s relentless, locals know exactly where to cool off without hopping on a boat. The city has some surprising spots for non-boat water activities, especially around the local outdoor pools and a handful of lakes a short drive away. Swimming at Gan Sacher isn’t just for families , it has lanes for serious swimmers too, perfect if you want a good workout or to just float without distractions.

Then there’s paddleboarding near the Ein Kerem area where the water tends to be calm. It’s an underrated spot. I’ve spent lazy afternoons here, balancing on a board while watching Jerusalem’s rooftops in the distance , it’s quieter than you might expect for a city this old. Don’t overlook the small splash parks scattered around Rehavia and Talpiot if you’re traveling with kids or just want to feel like a kid again without going far.

Heads up though: Jerusalem’s water spots can get crowded by late afternoon, especially during hot spells. Best to go early morning or late evening if you want to dodge the crowds. And despite the dry heat, pack plenty of sunscreen , shade’s rare by the water. Trust me, you’re going to want it.
